DIY Washi Tape Cork Board With Vintage

DIY Washi Tape Cork Board With Vintage

We don’t have an office space at home.  Our computer is up against a wall in our already tight dining room.  So, anytime I see gorgeous office spaces and printables that wouldn’t work in any space that isn’t mine exclusively, I get jealous.  Okay, not really but they do really really really make me want a space of my own.

So, when I started back to work full-time, getting my own office to decorate was definitely a plus.  I’ve been beyond busy at work so getting everything hung up and situated has taken a bit longer than I wanted but I did finally get one wall up.  I made this amazingly awesome washi tape cork board and used up some beautiful vintage fabric to make this happy and fun garland.
Okay, the cork board idea is not my own, I saw it on Dot Coms for Moms.  I’ve had these cork boards (you can get these from Target or Wal-Mart) for a while.  I used them for a craft fair I did and they’ve been sitting in a closet unused ever since.  Here’s how to add some creativity to yours.
Start with a clean square cork board.  Take your washi tape and measure from one corner to the opposite corner.  Then you want to take 1″ wide painter’s tape and put it directly beside the original piece of washi.  Then take another piece of washi and add it to the other side of the painter’s tape.  Repeat until you’ve covered your whole board.

This took about 20 minutes tops.  Here’s what I like.  See how I configured mine.  It’s totally different than the original source.  I didn’t realize that until I was writing up this post.  I like how you can make this and do at least a couple of different designs.

And here it is with all my pictures up.  I just need to add a few encouraging verses that some good friends gave me when I started this job.

I also added a really long piece of garland I made using some vintage fabrics.  I just love it!  I mean, I love all garlands in general but this one is so happy.  I posted it on instagram and a friend said that it looked really happy.  And it really does.

This was easy and doesn’t really require a tutorial but I just cut up a bunch of fabric into different shapes and sizes and just sewed right across the top.  Then I tacked it up with some thumbtacks.  Easy peasy.
My office is kind of dark on one side (no light and a giant brown door) but here’s everything together, along with a portion of my desk.  My desk has piles everywhere but I know what’s in the piles.  Is that how you are too?

So tell me – do you decorate your work office too?  I figure I’m there 8 hours a day, gotta make it look pretty.  🙂
Thanks for stopping by.  Happy Monday!!
