DIY Christmas Garland {tutorial}

I recently guest posted for Sugar Bee Crafts and shared my Christmas garland.  Now, I want to share it with you.  I love how it all came together!

Hi everyone!  I'm Eva and I blog over at Tales of the Scotts.  I'm a stay-at-home momma to two little people that keep me on my toes.  Much to my patient husband's chagrin, my dining room table is always full of  little "projects" I have going on. 







I'm the type of person that will find a particular element and then create it several times.  So, last month, I made my Fall garland and banners and fell in love using fabric scraps, pumpkins and burlap!  So, I knew I wanted to use the same concept for my Christmas decor.  I absolutely love how it turned out!  Come see what I did so you can create your own!

Fabric Scraps Garland

First grab some fabric you want to use.  I went to Joann's and bought 4 coordinating fabrics but use whatever you have on-hand if you don't want to spend any extra money.  I knew I didn't want to use only traditional Christmas colors (red/green).  So, I added that wonderful bubblegum pink in my main fabric.  Loving it!  Next cut your fabric into 1 inch strips (or however wide you want it) and into the length you want it.  Now you have a pretty pile of fabric strips!  To make mine, I had roughly 75-100 strips.

Then you want to turn your fabric wrong side up and cross one "tail" over the other.  Put your ribbon or rope on top (I do mine upside down for whatever reason but it doesn't matter which way you turn it, just be consistent), bring the "tails" up (or down in my case) through the hole (make sense?), pull down until it looks like a tie.  Then pull tight and move into place.  This is really easy to do this while watching your favorite show.

I love how bouncy and colorful it is!  It makes me happy!

Noel Burlap Banner

To create a personalized burlap banner, you need some burlap, fabric and interfacing.  Cut all three pieces to your desired size.  I like to make my burlap into banner shapes but do whatever you want.  Cut your fabric and interfacing down to the size you'll need for your letters.

Lay your fabric on the "rough" side of the interfacing and iron.  Peel off the white back side (I always forget to do this!) and lay it wrong-side down onto your Silhouette cutting mat.  Cut out your letter (this could easily be done with a X-Acto knife if you don't have a Silhouette).  Then place your letter onto your burlap and iron down.  I did a wide zig zag stitch all the way around my letters.  I don't think that you have to do this but I wanted it to stay in place since my little people like to get into everything.

Lastly, I attached some wide bias tape to it.  Super easy project!

Paint-Dipped Pinecone Garland

When I made the Pumpkin garland for my Fall decor, there were some small pinecones that came with them.  I held onto them because I knew I could incorporate them into my home at some point.  I got the idea to make paint-dipped pinecone garland from Smile and Wave.  When I saw hers, I knew that's what I wanted to do with my pinecones.

Since this involved paint, I didn't take any pictures mid process.  But just grab some pinecones, paint and shallow cups.  Pour some paint into your cups, dip your pinecones in half way or so, then lay them to dry on some wax paper.  I let mine dry overnight, turning a few times every few hours, and they were still a bit wet so I blow-dried them to speed up the process.  :-)  I used some cording and made a small loop and slipped the tip of the pinecone into the loop and pulled it tight.  I double-knotted them so they were secure.

They added the perfect touch to finish off my decor!

I ultimately decided to put my Christmas garland just underneath my Glitter Deer Canvas.

I just love how everything turned out!  It's exactly what I envisioned!
