DIY: Felt Pin and Hair Clip

Felt is one of my favorite mediums to work with.  It's versatile and forgiving, not to mention cheap!  I've been wanting to make some felt hair clips for my daughter.  She was wearing the outfit you see below one day and I thought it needed something extra so that's when I decided to make some felt pins and hair clips.

These are super simple to make.  You need felt, embroidery floss, a pin and alligator clip or whatever you prefer.  Oh and your hot glue gun.  I got to use my cordless one for the first time.  Nice!

Sorry ahead of time for these pictures but night-time crafting and no flash so it's doesn't drown out the picture will do that to you.  Basically take your felt, fold it in half and draw a half heart on it.  Cut it out and trim it up if need be.  Then use that as a pattern to cut out another heart.  Get your embroidery floss ready.  You can slip it in between the two hearts to get it started.  Just sew all around the heart.  Then either add a hair clip to the back or a pin.  I used a small piece of felt to cover the pin.  The only thing is I wish I had the pin moved up just a bit because it kind of flops over.

Isn't it super cute?  Well my daughter is super cute but I love the pop of color it added to this outfit from the pin.

I love this second picture.  She frequently sits with her feet crossed like this.  I love it!

She kept messing with the pin a bit but I think if she sees pins on her more and more, then she'll leave them alone.

And here is the clip in her hair.

Both of these are perfect for Valentine's Day too!  You could really have fun with this idea.  Make a ladybug to wear or a flower for Spring.  Get creative with it and add a little something to some otherwise plain outfits!

Thanks for reading!  See you soon!
